Yesterday, Sunday, two of my friends and I spent the day in San Francisco. We had a great time! First stop - North Beach. Had a coffee at Cafe Trieste which is an old Italian cafe, just coffee and pastries, and live music. They often have opera singers there, but yesterday they had a small group with mandolins. Sweet!
We spent a short time in Chinatown. We got a hair dying lesson from a store owner/artist in a North Beach jewelry shop! I got to tell my North beach stories yet again! I love Noth Beach, and I love that it has not changed all that much over the years. It does not grow because it is super compact to baegin with. No room for growth and no one seems to remodel!
We spent a lot of time in the Mission. I forgot about Community Thrift which is a great thrift store on Valencia Street. Now the Mission has gentrified a LOT over the years. I lived there starting in 1986. Now it has a lot of young people and upscale shop. Many of the businesses that used to be there are gone but some are still there, like Community Thrift. I bought a tea cup and matching creamer for $2.71. My friends bought some stuff, too. We also went to Thrift Town - a huge store! Great prices and has been there forever.
I really wanted to have lunch at La Rondela. A funky mexican restaurant and we walked many blocks to get there, and it was GONE! Just the neon sign left *Sigh*. So we turned around and walked back to La Cumbre, a fantastic Taqueria, and has yummy grilled chicken burritos :-)
Then - the best - my friend Ashley saw a sign in a store saying YARN and asked if I wanted to stop.....of course I did! They had a bunch of local handspun and nad dyed yarn. Some iSF artists some Bay area and I HAD to buy some... Had a really hard time deciding. Ipurred and hummed over the yarn with the shop owner, Ashley walked away and I am sure she was thinking I need to leave those two alone with that skein of yarn!!!!
I did decide on some fingering weight merino yarn made by Pigeon Roof Studios. Gorgeous
Here are some pictures. Then off to work I go.
